Atlanta Wedding Photographer Captures Special Day at the City's Historic Landmarks
This week’s wedding was Cameron and Johnathon. It was a wedding photographer’s dream. They are such a sweet couple, and the wedding party could not have been better. Their wedding took place at two of the best wedding venues in Atlanta. The ceremony was held at Peachtree Christian and the reception was held at Rhodes Hall. They are centrally located in the heart of Atlanta and are within walking distance of each other. It was truly a classic Atlanta wedding.
The wedding started down the most famous street in Atlanta, Peachtree Street, in a high-rise apartment the bride knew. There the make-up team from Jolie Artistry & Company worked with the bridesmaids, moms, and bride. They worked with military precision but also with with grace and personalized care for each person. They did hair and make-up for each person, the team were real pros. Once done there I headed over to the church to get a lay of the land.
Peachtree Christian Church is at the corner of Peachtree and Spring. It was designed to be a cathedral for Atlanta 100 years ago. It exemplifies Gothic Revival and is based on the churches of England and Scotland but specifically Scotland’s 15th century architecture, Melrose Abbey. The sanctuary's stained-glass windows are claimed to constitute the largest single collection of English stained-glass windows outside of England. The tall ceilings and the rows of stained glass make a grand statement. Inside the church there is a large room to the left of the sanctuary that the church uses as a bridal room.
When the bridal party arrived at the church, they went straight into the bridal room next to the sanctuary. There the bride put on her dress. The light in that room was simply divine! The light came through the back wall and made the bride look angelic, especially as the light travelled through her veil. Once the bride was ready, we did a quick first look with the bride’s father. It was a tender moment shared between a father and daughter. Once done there we took a few photos with the bride in the sanctuary as the bridesmaids did their final additions to their attire.
Once we had the bride and all the bridesmaids in one place I took them outside in front of the church. The classic architecture of the church made for a perfect backdrop to these sassy confident women. They strutted their stuff like they owned Atlanta. They laughed and were playful throughout the photo session. Which made for fun photos that reflected their colorful personalities.
Once done I tucked the ladies away inside and started to work with the groom Johnny and the guys. We took a few photos in the sanctuary and a few in front of the church just like we did with the ladies. We also incorporated some of his kids and extended family. Once done it was time to get ready for the ceremony.
The church’s sanctuary started to fill up with guests. Once everyone was in place the processional began. First the parents came in and lit the unity candle at the altar. Then the men came in followed by the bridesmaids. The bride and her father waited outside for their grand entrance. The music started, the guests stood up for the beautiful bride and the dad could not have been prouder. They walked to the front and the groom got to see his bride for the first time in her dress. It was a stunning dress with two layers and a long train that worked perfectly with the long aisle of the opulent church. Once the bride was at the front the dad gave her away and the ceremony began. It was a short ceremony with a few readings, a ring exchange and kissing. Then they were officially married. After the ceremony we took a few photos of the family and couple then headed to the reception at Rhodes Hall.
Rhodes Hall is one of my favorite historic venues in Atlanta. It is one of the few remaining mansions on Peachtree Street. It was built in 1904 before Ansley Park developed. It was built for Amos Rhodes, a rich businessperson in Atlanta. It was called the granite castle. The style is described as Romanesque Revival. Very few homes are built with this style because they are so expensive. There are many hand-carved details and stained glass throughout the home. There is a grand staircase that takes you to the second-floor residence which is now used as the offices of the Georgia Trust.
Once everyone was at the reception area the couple were introduced, and they went into their first dance. They had practiced it before, and they did a fantastic job! They danced like pros. At one point Johnny even picked Cameron up and spun her on the dance floor! They finished the dance with a big dip finally. Everyone clapped and the reception officially began. The guests enjoyed food and drink scattered throughout the mansion. If the guests were not eating, they were dancing to the live band. At the end of the night the guests lined up and they had a bubble exit to their antique Bentley. It was a perfect ending to a perfect night.
